How to Make a Video Gallery on WordPress

There are several ways to create a video gallery in CMS WordPress. In this article, we will tell you how to do it with and without a plugin.

Gallery without plugin

Let's start with how to make a gallery without using plugins. WordPress has built-in functions for this

First of all, you need to upload a video. To do this, go to the "Media" section in the admin panel and click the Add New button

Select files from your computer and click the Upload button

After that, create a page where the gallery will be placed. From the admin panel, go to the "Pages" section and click the Add New button

In edit mode, add the "Video" block by finding it through the search in the toolbar

Click File Library and select one of the previously downloaded files.

Repeat this process for all videos you want to add to the gallery.

Click Publish and then View Page

The gallery will appear on the page.

In the editing mode, the sidebar provides settings for the block: location, indents, alignment, typography, dimensions.

Disadvantages of the method

  • Without plugins, you are limited to basic gallery management functions. There is no way to add transition effects or set up automatic playback, or make a responsive design.
  • If you have a large number of videos, then managing them manually can be too difficult and inefficient.
  • Creating a video gallery without plugins requires some technical skills and knowledge of html and CSS.

Gallery with plugin

For example, let's look at the All-in-One Video Gallery plugin. It is designed to host multiple videos and allows you to combine them into categories and set playback settings.

First, you need to install it.

In the admin panel, open the "Plugins" section and click Add new.

In the search, enter All-in-One Video Gallery → Install → Activate.

After that, you will be redirected to the "Control Panel" section of the plugin. Here you can leave everything as is.

Next, you need to add a video. Go to the "Video Gallery" section, select "All Video Files" and click Add New.

Specify the title, and in the visual editor field you can add links to videos from external resources (YouTube, Rutube), or click the Add media file button and upload videos from your PC.

For example, let's post videos from YouTube.

To do this, go to the video hosting site, open the page of the desired video, hover the cursor over the player and right-click, then select "Copy video URL"

Go back to Wordpress and paste the address into the editor field. If everything is done correctly, a preview will be displayed.

Add a few more videos in the same way and click Publish.

To see the gallery on the page, click View Changes.

By default, the classic template is installed, so the videos are arranged in one column. To change the view, you need to connect the paid Pro version of the plugin.

There are other video plugins and they all work on a similar principle. The differences are only in the cost, the number of functions and support for working with other video services.

Disadvantages of plugins

  • Compatibility and updates. Plugins require updates from time to time and may not be compatible with other plugins and themes, which will cause problems with the site.
  • Loading speed. Using plugins can slow down your site loading, especially if they require a lot of resources or are large.
  • Limited free version: Some plugins provide only basic functionality in their free version, and additional features are only available in the paid version.

Creating a video gallery on WordPress can be done with different tools depending on your goals and skills. You can use built-in features for simple galleries or choose a plugin to simplify the task, but with some drawbacks. Ready-made solutions, such as the Qform video widget, can be a great compromise between ease of use and functionality. It allows you to add videos to your site with just two lines of code, without requiring programming knowledge. The Qform video widget offers various settings and features, such as video launch options, display type, call to action button, and sending goals to the analytics system.
